Flying Blind The Dragon Diaries Deborah Cooke Books
Zoe is your typical fifteen and a half year old girl. She is worried about getting her period, growing boobs, and transforming into a dragon. Well, maybe not quite so typical. She is the only female dragon. She is the Wyvern of the Pyr but she is worried that something is wrong. Her age mates -- all boys -- including her crush Nick have been able to shift into their dragon forms for years. One day when her friend was being bullied and hurt by a group of the mean girls, Zoe got so angry that she did a partial shift. However, this breaks the Covenant that her father drew up for all the Pyr. Humans can know you as a dragon or as a human but not both. Zoe's dad decides that it is time for her to participate in the boot camp that they hold for the younger Pyr to work on their skills. She is excited because it will give her time with her crush Nick.
She is disappointed to find that Isabelle, the adopted human daughter of another of the Pyr, is invited to participate too. Nick takes one look at her and is smitten causing Zoe to become jealous. But Zoe is giving a motorcycle ride to the camp by the very hot Jared. He's human but seems to know more about the Pyr than Zoe does herself and he is a musician and older. Zoe develops a crush of her own. Also attending the camp is Adrian who tells the tale of a life outside the Pyr.
The time at camp isn't a chance to improve their skills. They are cut off from the other Pyr and tensions seem to be escalating among the kids. Someone is making them suspicious of each other. Zoe is somewhat resistant to whatever is going on but she can't convince the boys that things aren't right. It is not until Jared returns that the Pyr kids learn that the mages who were an ancient enemy of the Pyr have developed a new plan to try to steel their powers.
The mages have begun by capturing all of the kids' dads. Zoe needs to get a handle on her powers as Wyvern, free the boys from the spell they are under, and rescue their fathers. In her own words, "No pressure."
This was an exciting an entertaining debut to a fantasy series. Dragon lovers will love this one. I can't wait for Winging It so that I can find out what happens next.

Flying Blind The Dragon Diaries Deborah Cooke Books Reviews
Love reading stories that keep on from previous stories. Love the interacting and fantasy line. Great Read for teenage girls.
Didn't think I would like the "young adult" series but I really enjoyed it. Worth the read and can't wait for the next one
...because if I would have read this first, as a girl, I would have insisted on reading about all the adults. And my mom would have laughed at me while telling me no. Seriously.
I feel like this series has the opportunity to go more into the lore behind the Pyr, which is something that romance novels are usually short on. I am so glad that Zoe is not another typical whiney, confused, and annoying teenage drama queen...at lease when not suffering under a mage's spell. I am also glad she is willing to listen to her elders, even if they won't or can't tell her much. I was genuinely happy when I finished this book and excited with the next instead of focusing on all the parts of the writing or characters that annoyed me. Thanks, Ms. Cooke, for showing the YA authors how it is done!
I've read all of the Dragon fire books, so I was excited to see a series about the next generation had been written. It's interesting to see favorite characters as parents and to compare their kids to them. This is a great story about growing up in a world of change and secrets. It's the perfect story for teenagers!
I really enjoyed this book for the most part. However, I agree with a previous review which indicates incredulity at the shower scene. E[...] Also, I'm a little confused by the reference to "messengers." Is that something exclusive to Pyrs? Because most teenagers I know just use phones/iPhones. I think it was dead on regarding teenagers' hormones and negative reactions without considering consequences. The arguments/fights/jealousy is much more believable than a group that all gets along without any problems. Can't wait to read the sequel.
Wow Zoe! This was an adventure from the get go. Also, my first book to read from the amazing author Deborah Cooke. And I can see why so many love to read her books! They are FASCINATING, to say the least. She has a wonderful way of telling stories that immediately takes your breath away and keeps her readers on their toes through the many twists and turns throughout her books. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Zoe naturally is my favorite character but Isabelle was a close runner up because the story gave just enough details about her that left me wondering what the possibilities could be surrounding her own story and place in the Pyr.
The action sense were somewhat intense and they did not play out the same in the book as I foreseen in my own imagination. Which was WONDERFUL! I love to read a story where I have no clue how things are going to end.
If you have been thinking or looking for a good dragon-shape-shifting book this is a must read!
24 Hours and I was done! The moment I got the book (kindle) I was on it. Couldn't put it down, what did you expect....lol There be Dragons I tell you! I loved the Dragonfire series and here was the start of a series regarding the offspring from Dragonfire, so I was ready to sink my teeth into Flying Blind and it didn't disappoint.
Holy Cow! Talk about keeping me on edge. Okay I have to admit trying to relate to being a teenager took me a minute, but then I realized I was reading from a 1st person perspective. Duh! Diaries!......lol
The book doesn't shy away from romance, vicious dragon fights, malevolence or anything you encountered in the Dragonfire books, however you won't find any eroticism here and that's okay too. We are dealing with young adults and their discovery at not just growing into adults but also their dragon capabilities. It's truly fascinating. Deborah Cooke is a phenomenal author, and her story telling is fantastic!
