Shanelle's view on pain "the terror of what he was doing combined with the pain had made her faint four times. And she had had a deep, unreasonable fear of pain ever since" was obtained at 10 years old due to the actions of a sadistic kidnapper.

I just started reading this book but I had read several reviews opining that Shanelle was "baby", a "wuss", etc.

True, she did take some defense training. Does the training nullify her fear that she has had since she was 10 and make it a non-factor? Or does it say more about her that she took the training in spite of her fear?

As I said, I just started the book but I'm going to go with it says more about her and give her the same respect that everyone deserves for acting in spite of deep-seated fears.

I'm am giving this 3 stars as that is what I usually Johanna Lindsey books. I love most of her books. They are quick, fast, easy reads. I'll reassess that rating when I finish. If I don't edited my review and/or change the rating within a day or so, my opinion stands.

Edited to add 05/31/16: Another poster opined that there was not a plot. The plot was the personal journey for Shanelle to overcome some of her other fears.

Otherwise, my rating and review stands. Another quick and easy read.

Keeper of the Heart LySanTer Family Johanna Lindsey 9780380774937 Books Reviews

I've been a JL fan for years and have watched her writing, characters, worlds and words develop depth and nuance; shifting and adjusting with age and experience.
When you pick up her books you get a decent story, some fun, some quirks and usually a few surprises. They are like my favorite nightshirt, comfortable, familiar a little sexy a litte edgy.
This barbarian planet drives me crazy tho, I don't care how sexy these dudes are, I just want to get one really good crack in across each of their jaws with a tire iron and tell them to get a grip! Too much self-satisfied smugness regarding their own egos. The ladies get some smalol licks in but cave quick to justify and forgive,Of course this was published years ago so was probably rather risque' then.
Time wounds all heels, now this is formulaic just as an old movie that astounded you 35 years ago is funny now.
Go gently and just enjoy an old friend's company.
This book follows Warrior's Woman and this time it is Shanelle Ly-san-ter. Challen and Tedra's daughter.
I loved this story. Now it is Shanelle's turn to meet someone who knocks her socks off and just like her mother she does. Falon is a warrior's warrior. A man who knows what he wants and he wants his golden Shani.
Let the games begin.
Characters from the first book show up in this one and it is bonus time. Challen is still Challen, Tedra is still kicking butt and Martha is just as funny as ever dropping her pearls of wisdom as is her wont.
This is the sequel to Johanna Lindsey's extremly popular Warrior's Woman. This book focuses on the daughter of the two main character from Warrior's woman.

Shanelle is product of a mother who comes from an advanced world and a father that clings to the traditional ways of his world. She has managed to walk the line between those two worlds and seems to put on the approriate behavior depending which parent she is with.

What is not clear is Shanelle's fear of pain. The book says she has this fear because of a tramitic childhood experiance. Ok, you can follow that. The fear seems to change though. She is afraid of how the warriors of her father's town punish their women, even though it has been stated clearly that they punish them this way because they do not want to physically harm them. She even goes so far as to perfer being spanked (A physical punishment) over their manner (which is sexual frustration). It never made sense. This was my issue with this book more then any thing else.

Falon is a wonderful hero who is able to prove to Shanelle's father that he will make the perfect protector and keeper of her heart.

This story is still enjoyable. It brings back so many of the characters from the previous book that it is like visiting old friends. The weakness is only Shanelle's fears which are completely unclear and don't really work to drive the story line.
The second in the Ly-san-ter series. Tedra and Challon's daughter is all grown up now and as independent as her mother. She refused to marry a warrior like her mother did and be told what, when and how to do something. Tedra has her trained as she was but before Shanelle knows her life mate will be given to her by her father, she tries to flee. Until she meets Falon Vanyer. She is automatically attracted to him and finds him uncontrolled in ALL ways which causes her immense physical pain. Something that Shanelle has never been good at dealing with. Falon is like 7 feet tall and all brawn; Everywhere!! After Challon has given her to him, she runs to hide away on another planet before he can actually claim her as his. The cat and mouse game in this story is fun. I thought it was a fun read with all the new and old ways the two worlds. I love Tedra from book 1 and love her even in this one. She is as devoted to her children as to her warrior life mate. It's a sci-fi romance and a good story line. I can't wait to read the last one. Sci-fi is out of genre, but I really have enjoyed reading these.
