I maybe made a quick choice to read this book, before reading the first one, but I still find it interesting, quite possible for the near future and surely made me think a lot. This isn't just a book of a teenage girl who lives in now divided USA and who faces serious life challenges. I find the plot quite, quite possible - USA is no longer one country, but two countries, named Democravia and Republican Homeland (names are not naively chosen, as you can guess). The author shows a realistic situation in a what-if world which could easily turn into reality after the latest elections. The leading character is a teenage girl, and although I am not, I actually enjoyed her story and her struggles.
As I said, I haven't read the first book (which now I'm intrigued to read) so I find some of the plot to be slightly confusing for me, but the author actually is skilled and developed the characters quite well, so the book actually allows you to enjoy it even though you practically jump in the story.

The Victor Heritage Book Two of The Jonah Trilogy Anthony Caplan 9780981516653 Books Reviews

Anthony Caplan's 'Victor's Heritage' is the second book in "The Jonah Trilogy", a follow up to 'Savior.' That being said, while the world presented in 'Savior' will help set up parts of this book it isn't necessarily needed as we're following the daughter and granddaughter of the main character.

The take on the United States is a rather timely one with the recent election showing how divided the country is and actually has it split between Democravia and the Republican Homeland, I'm sure you can guess which political parties are in charge of each of these nation states.

Corrag is the lead and a teenage girl who lives in Democravia. It is time for her to become Augmented though she has no idea what that means though it shows that the emotions and actions of those who are will be monitored and controlled. This isn't exactly what she wants from her life right now but also doesn't know if she wants to fight for change or how to.

The pacing is fast and action packed which will keep you wanting to follow Corrag from start to finish. I'm kind of curious as to if the third installment will follow who we've been introduced to so far or if we'll be getting flung even further into the future to see how the world has changed.

Either way, Caplan has created a fun take on the world if things went even worse between the two political parties that govern the US which is well worth the read.
Well started reading the book ,but too many words that didn't look like words, but I always try and give a book a chance but didn't help . Just not my kind of book , may be a really good book ,but not for me
The Victors Heritage is a science fiction novel set in a future United States of America that has been split into two countries. One is essentially governed by Democrats while the other is governed by Republicans. When the novel's protagonist a young woman named Corrag, absconds from her life in Democravia, nothing for her will ever be the same.
In all honesty, I found this book to be very difficult to follow. Admittedly, I came into it unfamiliar with its predecessor and so I had much catching up to do while I was reading it. Still, despite my prior lack of knowledge of the book's universe, it does have its facets. Its prose were very graceful and its characters were very well drawn. However, it was filled with so much terminology and references to objects and people from the previous novel, that I had to keep rereading scenes from it several times to entirely comprehend what was taking place in the plot. This often left me frustrated.
Therefore, if you have read the precursor to Victor's Heritage I'm almost certain you will like this second installment of the Jonah Trilogy. But, if the world of the Jonah Trilogy is not one you know well, reading this book can be a struggle.
What would you sacrifice for immortality? What happens when you can no longer tell human from bot? This first book just scratches the surface of some potentially compelling storylines. This first book we follow Corrag as she struggles with the decision whether or not to be augmented. Upon making her decision she becomes a rebel/activist and later a prophet of sorts.
I liked most of it but it fell off for me after escaping the prison. It just veered into a weird direction that didn't seem to fit and felt anticlimactic.
This is the second part of "The Jonah Trilogy", the book stands alone even if you haven't read the first one. Is a great plot by itself, even if you don't understand at first all the terms, which in principle you can intuit and then fully understand.
He mixes a futuristic world with landscapes and ancestral knowledge that reminds me a little of "Brave New World" by Aldoux Huxley, so if you read and liked that book, you certanly will like this.
This book has a lot of action and a well structured pacing, which added to a female protagonist, made me unable to put it down until I finished it.
It may simply be that I've reached my saturation point with US politics that causes me not to give this book a higher rating, as the author's writing is excellent and the story incredibly well thought out and constructed. The book, while set in an uncomfortably realistic future, is very topical for today and touches on many of the dissatisfactions that people both inside and outside America feel. At the same time, it is a very personal story about one girl's quest of discovery and her internal struggles as she tries to come to terms with the present she inhabits and what her future may hold. This is the second book in a series and there are references to the previous work that may make the story a bit more difficult to follow if you haven’t read the first book; nonetheless, this is a very good standalone offering from Caplan and holds a great deal of promise for future works. I look forward to enjoying more of this author’s books in the future.
