I met Megan at the LA Times Book Fair last week. We had a brief chat, and I thought I would download her book onto my kindle when I got home.
I am SO glad I did!
See I am an absolute sucker for chick lit. Except that chick lit is almost an insult these days - it's synonymous with bad story lines, cliche endings and the same female protagonist making the same mistakes and finding the same solutions. That is not what good chick lit is, THIS BOOK is what good chick lit is to me. It uses words that challenge your vocabulary on occasion, a main character who is like able but not stupid or spoilt, a storyline that is absolutely airtight. Others have said the book was short - it is - but that's because the story moves at exactly the right pace and contains no unnecessary fluff. I loved the length of the chapters.
Tales from my Hard Drive will have you smiling at funny anecdotes and expressions all the way through, and when you get to the end you'll be smiling because all the ends are tied and you are left completely satisfied.

This book is a must-read for anyone who has ever braved the world of online dating! As we all know, it can be full of ups and downs and crazy stories no one would ever believe - and Megan Karasch captures this perfectly in "Tales from My Hard Drive." Beyond this, she's just a really clever writer, and her wry observations will make you laugh out loud - they certainly did for me. This is a fun read for a plane ride, the beach, or a weekend away. Buy it!
I loved every minute of this book. It kept me laughing every page. The author did a great job capturing our feelings regarding internet dating. The amusement ...the sensitivities. I've already shared it with several friends. You GO Megan! Great start.
This is the perfect book for those of us who want a lighthearted "escape" from our own lives, if only for awhile. I became vested in the main character's feelings, desires, wants and fears. I actually found myself literally "LOL-ing" throughout the various dating (mis)adventures described within. The author's approach to telling this tale makes the reader feel like they're actually a part of the story. I honestly didn't want the book to end!!! Sequel! Sequel!
I liked the author's writing style. This was a very enjoyable read which also had some very funny context. I think that you would enjoy it.
I must admit that this book took me by surprise. It was very entertaining and literally made me laugh out loud! Not many authors can produce that response out of me. It's fun to read a book and escape into the world of dating and disappointment and perseverance to find love. I can't wait to see what comes next from this author.
Have you been on a date in the past 5 years? or ever? Then you will have absolutely no problem falling in love with this book! You will be invested in the main characters as soon as you "meet" them--the author's wit and flair makes them relatable to men and women readers alike. It is not only laugh-out-loud funny,but provides married folk with chapter after chapter of reasons why they should be thankful that they found their other half, and provides us single folk with the courage to go out and try it again when we are just about to give up...I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what this author comes up with next!
My girlfriend heard about this book from a podcast & after reading it told me that I had to. Now, this is not remotely the type of book I normally read. I'm a sci-fi fan who's been reading a lot of biographies & political stuff lately but my girlfriend was insistent. So I had no choice, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I started reading what I thought was going to be some type of chick-lit but was increasingly pleased to see a very witty & fresh take on age old themes of heartbreak & a mid-life crisis and the 21st Century phenom of internet dating.

Full disclosure, my girlfriend & I actually met on the internet have been going strong since, but before that we both experienced many a nightmare date that one cringes through. "Tales From My Hard Drive" manages to capture the horror of those experiences from all angles, from the nervous insecurities before one steps out the door to the hopeful relief of never seeing some of these people again. It's a book that I think all women who have dated "that guy" can relate to. And I think men should read this as well as a cautionary tale toward not becoming "that guy" which at one time or another, sadly, we're all guilty of being. (Don't worry guys, this isn't like a "Sex And The City" marathon that you have to endure on Valentine's Day, this is a very, fun quick read with a New York sarcasm not unlike a snappy Woody Allen flick)
